50) Mark Rae – Northern Sulphuric Soulboy (Mark Rae) 10″

Not strictly 2017, but copies only really hit the street during 2017 with the push for great distribution. The care and attention of this release is very high with the music supplementing the narrative of Mark’s formative years through prose with whit and great charm. This is an essential Christmas stocking gift to your self!

49) Various – Tasty Treats 4 The Kids (Childsplay) 12″

Fledgling youthful London label Childsplay debuts with a collective of house and techno bombs that flew out of the door when copies first arrived. The label is one of our tips for the future with an equally strong follow up due out in 2018. The future is rosy with childsplay.

48) Various – Disco Reggae Three (Stix) 2 x LP

The first two versions of Disco Reggae have proved to be strong sellers for us in the shop because they’ve both been high on quality and the grooves ride the beats with great aplomb. This third release is probably the strongest so far with storming interpretations of ‘Disco Illusion’ and ‘Love To Love You Baby’ making this an essential for our top 50.

47) The Diabolical Liberties – All Out For Love (TDL) 12″

Freeform punk funk with a sprinkling of jazz 12″ from the  Diabolical’s, who once again demonstrated their rejection of conformity and continue their quest for pushing buttons that others daren’t go near.

46) Various – Hamam House 2 (Hamam House) 12″

A mystical collective of Turkish grooves that somehow arrive in a shop via an equally mythical masked secret agent. These flew out of the door as demand was high and the third release due in 2018 is eagerly anticipated  by us in the shop. Hamam House rocks!

45) Monsalve Y Los Forajidos – Ebaja (Olindo) 7″

This one hit us by surprise with it’s psyched out African Latin grooves. The copies that we did get didn’t last long because the quality is that high.

44) Maurice Moore and the Family Band – Everything That Shines Ain’t Gold (Melodies International) 12″

Our friends over at Melodies delivered a series of serious releases during 2017 but this release by Maurice Moore captured our imagination the most because we’d eagerly awaiting it dropping for a while.

43) Difusion Edits 2 (Difusion) 12″

The second instalment from Difusion kept the bar high for quality edits and was a popular feature on the shop’s turntable during the year.

42) Leonidas and Hobbes – Rags Of Time EP (Hobbes) 12″

A balearic beat monster of 2017 would best describe this release by Leonidas and Hobbes. This is one that sold well when presented to the right customers.

41) Basil Kirchin – Silicon Chip (Trunk) 7″

The charming Trunk Records deliver high quality represses and with this one by Basil Kirchin with ‘Silicon Chip’ proved to be stronger for us in the shop.
